Description: The goal of the program is to divert at-risk youth from negative societal influences such as gangs, substance abuse by improving their school attendance, academics, self-esteem, and personal relationships. DuPage County will accomplish this goal by training youth to be peer mentors. The trained youth will provide mentoring to at risk youth. The peer mentors will receive training in improving interpersonal skills, goal setting and conflict resolution. The peer mentors will conduct outreach to the at risk youth. DuPage County will report performance measures that include improved academic performance and the number of peer mentors that are matched with at risk youth.
