Description: Brookdale Community College will train 20 middle school mathematics teachers to help 150 at-risk students develop their math and technology skills through after school and summer camp programs. The goal of the OPTIMIST II: Algebra to Career Success Program is to prepare at-risk middle school students for greater success in high school and to increase enrollment and persistence in college, technical training, and employment in demand occupations. The program will engage middle school students, teachers, guidance counselors, and parents from the three urban school districts of Asbury Park, Long Branch, and Neptune, New Jersey. The program will submit in GMS categorical progress reports to include teacher-developed learning modules, teacher and student surveys, and assessment of student skill levels before and after program participation.
