Description: This project will fund comprehensive case management to address high truancy and suspension rates among youth that live in the Overtown area of Miami-Dade County, FL. The Overtown Youth Center (OYC) provides educational tutoring, recreational activities and character and social skill development programs. In addition, OYC features a core case management program which serves at-risk youth. This grant will be used to provide comprehensive case management to 400 students over a two year period. These services will be offered year round after school (from September to June), plus a six-week summer day time program. Performance measures for the program will include tracking changes in truancy among targeted youth, as well as conduct grades, and school suspensions. Progress will be measured using pre-test/post-test measures of social skills, school attendance and behavioral records.
