Description: The Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation operates AileyCamp, a six-week summer day camp serving 90-100 inner city children, ages 11-14 in seven cities nationwide. The program's goals include helping children learn the value of commitment and self-discipline, increasing cognitive abilities, improving interpersonal skills, and providing positive role models. The program's strategy relies on disciplined dance training, creative writing instruction, personal development and communication workshops, to help AileyCampers develop a respect for themselves and others. Performance outcomes include change in student attitudes which are measured with student evaluations at the beginning and end of the camp.
