Description: The Community Service Center of New York's Experience Corps Literacy Initiative will provide a literacy program for elementary school children in the south Bronx School District 7. One-on-one tutoring will be provided to 100 students struggling with reading, and 350 students will receive in-class assistance from program volunteers. The goal of the program is to significantly improve participant reading levels and their overall academic experience. The Community Service Center will report on performance measures including recruiting 50 adult volunteers for the program, and improved participant reading ability as evidenced by the results of the Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS) assessment, given twice a year.
