Description: Loisaida's Parenting Awareness Prevents Abandonment (PAPA) Program serves young adolescent fathers up to age 23 to insure that they will play a positive role in the lives of their children. The program serves a population of young men which is 80% Hispanic and 10% Black. The PAPA program works to break the cycle of father absenteeism by helping young fathers develop the parenting, educational, social and work related skills to prepare for the responsibilities of fatherhood. The program will serve at least 30 young fathers each program year. Services will be provided to each participant over a six month period. During the intake and assessment process, each participant and a worker will set individual goals. Progress will be measured by the number of participants who attend program activities and the degree to which they attain their goals. Program participants will continue to be tracked over a six-month period after completing services to determine long-term out comes. Key outcomes will be to increase the number of young fathers in the targeted population with the material and emotional resources necessary to take part in the rearing of their children, and that 80% of the participants will continue positive involvement with their children six months after completing program services.
