Description: The purpose of this program is to increase youth commitment to education, define career objectives, exit the criminal justice system, make healthy lifestyle changes, and reconnect with their families/communities by improving grades and school attendance, establishing regular interactions with a mentor, and completing 150 hours of work and community service. This will be achieved by implementing a program that provides individual and intensive case management, mentoring relationships, organized activities and a unique two-to-four week training module in fire-fighting and environmental care to 25 youth between the ages of 13 and 17 who live in the Cypress Park area of the Los Angeles. The program outlines performance measures that include 100% of participants will receive regular, one-on-one case management; 100% of participants will make healthier life choices; 85% of participants will improve behavior and relationships with family; of the participants who have dropped out of school, 80% will return to school or begin a high school equivalency program; 100% of participants will complete 150 hours of work experience and/or community service experience; 100% of participants will complete a 2-4 week training module in fire-fighting and environmental care; and 100% of participants will comply with the requirements of their probation.
