Description: The Middlesex District Attorney's Office will open the Citizenship Institute to spread their Citizenship in Action curriculum beyond the local middle schools where it is currently being taught. The Citizenship in Action curriculum was developed by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office to teach middle school students concepts such as justice, equality and social responsibility. The Citizenship Institute will train local youth service organizations on how to use the Citizenship in Action curriculum. The youth service organizations that receive the training will use the curriculum with at-risk youth, especially with youth facing court involvement. In order to make the Citizenship in Action curriculum an effective prevention program, the Middlesex District Attorney's Office will hire local experts that will review and revise the curriculum to make sure that the curriculum reflects the best principles and structure of other science-based approaches to civics education and prevention. The Middlesex District Attorney's Office will submit categorical progress reports that will report on eight (8) performance measures that include: increased knowledge of civic values, improved attitude, increased decision-making skills and an increased understanding of anti-social acts.
