Description: This project will focus on building and understanding autonomic, resilient and trusted computing systems. Investigators will lead research in the security, privacy and trust of sensor networks, self-healing systems, digital image tampering and the creation of secure and trustworthy systems, platforms and infrastructure. The project will also focus on various aspects of situational awareness for emergency response including new technologies for medical and geospatial situational awareness for field-based emergency response, robotic systems for assisted response and recovery in high risk environments, and emergency response simulation and virtual prototyping, emphasizing development of affordable and customizable simulated environments. The research will include feasibility studies involving state and local responders and translational research to ensure transition of research results to the emergency response community. This project will also fund research in areas outside the scope of these two above stated areas. These smaller projects will fall under the aegis of the Director's Special Projects, a mechanism for studying emerging issues of vital importance to security and the ISTS mission.
