Description: The purpose of the project is to develop and implement a coordinated and cooperative enforcement effort to disrupt the organized distribution of narcotics into and through the State of Iowa. This initiative is a partnership between the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Iowa State Patrol, and local law enforcement and prosecution agencies. In addition, the project will work closely with the Midwest HIDTA, Drug Enforcement Administration, and United States Attorney's Offices. The goals and objectives of the project are to: 1) train state and local law enforcement to identify and investigate drug traffickers; 2) improve the collection, analysis, and dissemination of intelligence related to drug trafficking; and 3) reduce the availability of illicit drugs in Iowa communities. The anticipated impact of the project is that significant levels of seizures will take place and will lead to high level investigations of trafficking organizations. The following indicators will be used to measure the impact of this initiative: 1) controlled substance seizures; 2) value of asset forfeitures; 3) controlled substance arrests (felony); 4) controlled substance convictions; 5) referrals to the U.S. Attorney for controlled substance prosecution; and 6) drug trafficking organizations identified.
