Description: The 2005 Congressional Earmark grant shall allow the City of New Orleans to fund both the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) Enhanced Proactive Patrol Initiatives and provide the Office of Municipal Investigation (OMI) much needed equipment, supplies and training. NOPDS Enhanced Proactive Patrol Initiatives, implemented on an overtime basis, will impact violent crimes occurring throughout the City of New Orleans (Orleans Parish). NOPD strategies will include but not be limited to increased uniformed officer visibility, targeted zone patrols, directed patrols within documented district hot zones, coordinated traffic checkpoints, and undercover surveillance and intelligence gathering to increase arrest and prosecution for all narcotic related crimes. Equipment purchases and training provided to Agents/Investigators through the Congressional Earmarked funds will allow OMI to enhance its criminal investigations of corrupt municipal government practices and employees (uniform, civilian classified civil service and unclassified appointees) within the City of New Orleans.
