Description: The San Diego Police Department will use these funds to develop Crisis Intervention Response Teams (CIRT) that will be prepared, trained, and equipped to address potential violence in a manner that minimizes risk to victims, officers, bystanders, and suspects, while bringing such incidents to safe and effective conclusions. Grant funds will be used to equip CIRT officers with less than lethal weapons. The specific goals of the project are to: 1) Develop CIRTs; 2) Expand existing communication with the community through community training and other programs such as Neighborhood Watch; 3) Research equipment and methodologies for effective CIRTs; and 4) Provide resource and problem solving information for officers in the field.
