To improve the functioning of the criminal justice system and enforce state and local laws - On-Site Academy.

1 recipient will receive $444,000. This is a first-time earmark.
Year Enacted: 2005
Code: 131
Description: The On-Site Academy provides treatment for stress and trauma suffered by law enforcement officers and their families. It provides outreach and critical incident interventions to groups and individuals. The services are offered to officers injured in the line of duty and to survivors in the event of line of duty death. Residential services, including treatment for addiction and recovery, are offered to those who need them either to return to duty or for transitioning to retirement. This grant will support the critical need for the Academy's services for law enforcement officers and their families to support the officers after returning from military service in Iraq and Afghanistan. Services are also provided to widows and families of officers who were killed while serving in the military. It is the goal of the On-Site Academy to provide services to lessen the impact of officers' exposure to wartime incidents through three-day treatment programs. This grant will also support services to three mid-size contiguous Massachusetts police departments to create a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement peer support team. In addition to the services for former military personnel, this grant will continue on-going services for law enforcement officers and their families.
