To improve the functioning of the criminal justice system and enforce state and local laws - Oglala Sioux Tribe.

1 recipient will receive $419,000. This is a first-time earmark.
Year Enacted: 2005
Code: 128
Description: The Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety is faced with losing 59 police officers on the Pine Ridge Reservation. The grant funding will provide revenues to retain 39 police officers, enhance communications for security purposes, and increase police response time. Many homes on the reservation have scanners that track the communications of the police department. The current communication infrastructure is unreliable and can leave the officer no communication capabilities. This jeopardizes the safety of the officer and the victim. The system needs to be updated with enhanced security features which will decrease the officer response time and create a safer environment for the officer and victim.
