Description: The Community Partners Program was initiated in 1998 and is a national outreach model. The eight Community Partners funded by this grant will provide information and direct outreach to residents of targeted high crime neighborhoods identified by the Milwaukee Police Department, referring families to needed resources in their own neighborhoods. Each Community Partner is required to make 40 face-to-face contacts each week. Community Partners activities are driven by and address one or more of the following factors: (1) Improved communication between neighborhood residents and law enforcement/service agencies; (2) Community activities inviting participation of all residents; (3) Dissemination of information; (4) Improved participation of young residents in positive youth programming; (5) Knowledge of programming and resources available to residents; (6) Creating a safe and secure neighborhood; (7) Reinforcement of positive norms and expectations; (8) Leadership development/community involvement; and (9) Education/Awareness.
