1 recipient will receive $395,000. This is a first-time earmark.
Year Enacted: 2005
Code: 93
Description: This grant will be used to support the Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College's Gabangan-Ogimaa Law Enforcement Program or Future Peace Leaders Law Enforcement Program (LEP). The LEP is a model program developed to provide training and education for American Indians and other under-represented group members to enter into the career of law enforcement. The LEP will provide the latest training approaches required for individuals seeking a position in the law enforcement field, along with some new cutting edge techniques associated with working with communities of color. An important aspect of the project that is unique to the LEP is that the project will incorporate an emphasis on a cohort model that is supportive in nature in hopes to increase the completion rate of students. At the conclusion of the project, the proposed outcomes will be focused around increasing the number of qualified American Indian and other under-represent group members being employed in the law enforcement profession throughout the Tribes and States of Minnesota, Wisconsin, North and South Dakota.
