Description: This grant will fund the Leadership Institute in Judicial Education (LIJE), an innovative judicial branch education program at the University of Memphis. The project purpose is to improve judicial branch education and the administration of justice through education of judges and other judicial branch personnel. Court systems and organizations that provide continuing judicial branch education apply to be accepted to attend LIJE as teams. Components of the program are: (1) Basic Institute for 30 court professionals who attend in teams. Each team leaves with an action plan that details how the new learnings are to be implemented in its jurisdiction. (2) Six On-site Institutes to reinforce the learning that occurred at the Basic Institute and to "expand the circle" to include individuals who play a leadership role in judicial branch education in each team's jurisdiction. (3) Advanced Institute where teams report on their Action Plans. Participants also learn from other teams' experience with change strategies and further explore the principles of learning and development in leadership roles.
