Description: The project will address both Internet crimes against children and prevention of the police department's computer systems. The Suffolk County Police Department's Computer Crimes Section will enhance its efforts to protect children from the dangers of Internet sexual predators through increased undercover investigations, improved forensic analysis, and community outreach. The second component of the project addresses the vital need for protection of the Department's computer systems against intrusion by viruses and worms. This protection is critical for continuity of operations in a terrorist or widespread emergency event, as well as for day-to-day operations. The project will fund the purchase and installation of software to protect the Department's Windows and Sun Solaris servers.
