Description: This project will upgrade and modernize the technological and information system capabilities of the New Orleans District Attorney's Office. Planned improvements will significantly enhance the ability of the district attorney's office to perform required word processing and data tracking functions, prepare statistical reports, share information with other criminal justice agencies, improve security of sensitive data bases, and provide accurate and current ¿rap sheet¿ information to other law enforcement agencies. The grant funding will support an "Information System Unit" that will be established and 4 personnel will be hired to address and alleviate the backlog in archiving closed case files, to process "rap sheet" dispositions, and to assist in training staff in the operation of a new case tracking system. The 4 positions funded will consist of (1) full-time Information System Supervisor, (1) full-time Information System Specialist, and (2) part-time Information System Specialists. Grant funds will also be used to make system upgrades such as the implementation of an internet based case tracking program-CRIMES, providing network wiring and computers equipment and to purchase surveillance and video recording equipment.
