Description: The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) will award an earmark to the National Correctional Industries Association (NCIA) to serve as BJA's Prison Industries Enhancement Certification Program (PIECP) technical assistance and training provider. DOJ has consistently engaged PIECP as a viable subset within the broader context of correctional industries, recognizing that a sound correctional industry infrastructure is vital to the administration of successful PIECP programs. The PIECP program was created in 1979 by federal legislative statute, and has been administered by BJA under Congressional directive 1. NCIA will use these funds to serve as BJA's PIECP technical assistance and training provider for a period of 12 months. In addition, NCIA will assist in conducting assessments of PIECP operations and applications for certificates, as needed.
