Description: The Lancaster Bureau of Police is operating a Curfew Violation Center at an inner-city location. The use of this innovative center is addressing the problem of curfew violators. This is a pilot project that provides research-based data on the effectiveness of utilizing a non-police site to detain curfew violators until their parents could be located. The Lancaster Bureau of Police has developed a method of diverting curfew violators to non-municipal location and allows police officers to return to their patrol area more quickly. It also offers a mechanism for early intervention among at-risk youth. A line item in the FY 2005 Congressional budget provides funding to the Lancaster Bureau of Police for the Curfew Violation Center Project.
