Description: The grant funds will be used by the Minneapolis Police Department to train and equip its Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) officers. The CIT officers carry on all the normal duties of police officers but switch to a specialist role when a potential mental health-related crisis is identified. The goal of these efforts is to assure that mentally ill people receive an appropriate response from their initial police contact and, subsequently, appropriate care so they do not suffer unnecessarily within the justice system.
