Year Enacted: 2005
Code: 51
Description: Excelsior College will continue its work by applying a single set of nationally accepted standards, namely those used by both the American Council on Education (ACE) and the Program on Non-collegiate Sponsored Instruction (PONSI), to the evaluation of training for academic credit equivalencies. They will continue to correlate the content and academic credit to common elements found in college-level curricula in general, and criminal justice curricula in particular. The initial funding provided for the development of the Criminal Justice Training Assessment (CJTA) project and the assessment of 30 criminal justice training programs. Currently more than 18 agencies are on a waiting list to conduct additional assessments. This funding will provide sufficient resources to conduct an additional 8 pre-assessment site visits and up to 30 assessments during the 15-month funding period. This project continues to develop very specialized expertise in the evaluation of criminal justice training for academic credit. While the expertise is specialized, it is not localized. It builds upon hundreds of training staff at criminal justice training agencies across the country who complete the evaluation process, more than 80 national consultants/assessors from colleges and universities nationwide who serve on assessment teams, 12 members of the National Advisory Committee, and the knowledge and experience of Excelsior College, the largest accredited, distance learning, outcomes-assessment institution of higher education in the country.
