Citation Excerpt: Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, Title I, Part E, SEC. 1504. CLOSE UP FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM. (a) PROGRAM FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL AND SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS. (1) ESTABLISHMENT. (A) GENERAL AUTHORITY. In accordance with this subsection, the Secretary may make grants to the Close Up Foundation of Washington, District of Columbia, a nonpartisan, nonprofit foundation, for the purpose of assisting the Close Up Foundation in carrying out its programs of increasing civic responsibility and understanding of the Federal Government among middle school and secondary school students. NOTE: The program was first authorized in 1972 (P. L. 92-506, 92nd Congress S J Res 265, October 19, 1972) and first received funding in 1973. P.L. 108-447: For carrying out activities authorized by parts G and H of title I, subpart 5 of part A and parts C and D of title II, parts B, C, and D of title V, and section 1504 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (`ESEA'), $1,101,454,000
