Citation Excerpt: The Committee supports the preservation of the last tallgrass prairie in North America, most of which is located in the Flint Hills region of Kansas. The Committee recognized that the tallgrass prairie provides rich ranching lands, open spaces, and habitat for a diverse assemblage of plants and animals. The Committee urges the agency to give consideration to the use of all appropriate funding sources for projects in Kansas that will preserve and protect this unique area.
