Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORC) "Aging in Place" initiative.

1 recipient will receive $50,000. This is a first-time earmark.
Year Enacted: 2005
Code: N/A
Description: The goal of the program is to develop a wheelchair accessible vehicle transportation program with the primary objective of increasing access to services for the frail and disabled seniors of the Columbus East-side community. The program will offer much needed service to an aging population and enable seniors to remain in their own homes longer by ensuring that they have a way to meet their medical and shopping needs. Access to healthcare is noted to be a major barrier in community health. Through these trips, the program will provide opportunities for socialization that contribute greatly to the overall physical and mental health of seniors.
