Description: Wasilla Area Seniors, Inc. is developing a 'senior campus concept' model of service delivery at Knik Manor in Wasilla, Alaska. The first year project goals include providing more nutritious and culturally appropriate meals to seniors in Matanuska Susitna Borough while examining the relationship between mood, food associations and memory improvement; making Knik Manor safer for residents, increasing the mental and physical activity level of residents-to stimulate them and lessening the prevalence of depression, and improving the quality and safety of campus transportation and ensure safety of perishable and non-perishable items, i.e. food delivered to homebound elderly, as well as local and remotely dwelling seniors. The project will also train seniors in CPR, First Aid, and natural disaster or emergency response; and establish Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) that will then be shared with churches, community groups, and senior centers.
