Description: Under this project the BLM Alaska is supporting staff who process disclaimers of interest for lands underlying beds of navigable waters that were unreserved at the time of statehood and for which the State now seeks application. The project also provides funds for the BLM to issue an assistance agreement to the State for research that identifies the water bodies meeting the federal criteria for navigability. This includes supplying BLM with supporting evidence and documentation for the State's application. The disclaimer process avoids costly Quiet Title Action lawsuits and since it allows the State to manage these lands and waters under the public trust doctrine, it directly benefits state residents.
