Description: Next Generation Non-Tactical Vehicle Propulsion: The U.S.Army has a fleet of approximately 250,000 non-tactical and tactical vehicles. Transitioning this fleet to fuel cell vehicles/hydrogen-powered vehicles provides significant operational advantages to the Army; reduced reliance on fossil fuels, reduced vehicle emissions, increased systems performance and reliability. Fuel cell technology is undergoing rapid development today. Fuel cells have the potential to build upon the electrical aspect of prior electrical vehicle experience & achieve new and even more impressive performance levels. General Motors is currently conducting a fuel cell/hydrogen vehicle demonstration along with the related hydrogen refueling infrastructure operates out of the U.S. Army installation at Fort Belvoir, VA under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with the U.S. Army Material Command. It is proposed that the NGenNVP initiative take the current demonstration to the next step with a next generation non-tactical propulsion military truck at Ft. Belvoir & could include demonstrations & operations extended to additional sites in Michigan, New York & California
