Rare Blood Program

1 recipient will receive $957,000. This is a first-time earmark.
Year Enacted: 2005
Description: The proposal will extend the current knowledge of the genetics of red cells antigens to the development of gene based typing system. The use of sequence information and regulatory regions of red cell antigen genes should improve the ability to identify alleles within red cell antigen line. Using this information, donors that lack common antigens can be identified, providing a basis for determining the compatibility of donors and recipients of blood products.
