High Speed MEMS Electromagnetic Cell Sorter

1 recipient will receive $1,437,000. This is a first-time earmark.
Year Enacted: 2005
Description: The objective of this project is to create an ultra-high-speed cell sorter for clinical applications. This will be accomplished through use of electro-magnetic micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technology. The project is divided into phases. In year one, the research objective of phase I is to answer the fundamental question of how best to optimize sort purity, efficiency, and speed in the MEMS-enabled high-speed-sorter; and phase II is the development of the flow control system.
