1 recipient will receive $32,717,000. This is a continuing earmark.

Description: Funding enables critical R&D essential to Space Situational Awareness and Missile Defense. The MSSS is uniquely sited within the DoD to view and participate in advanced R&D in support of missile testing and defense technologies. This R&D benefits the AF in developing key technologies, as well as many outside agencies including MDA, AFSPC, SMC, and others. Support to MSSS is essential to develop, test and demonstrate advanced technologies for our nation's defense. These activities are critical to protecting and defending our nation's dependence on space for protection and commerce. Continue MSSS research, development and contributing-sensor operational tasks supporting various operational customers and experimenters. The focus has been on two major programs, namely, Active Track and Space Situational Awareness (SSA), with efforts divided mainly along those lines, and with most funding dedicated to SSA (customers heavily fund Active Track). Focus in FY07 will be on continuing to advance the technical performance of our imaging and tracking sensors, as well as upgrading existing equipment to improve reliability and decrease equipment maintenance and repair costs. As and example, investment will be made to develop and integrate an even more advanced Adaptive Optics imaging system in FY07.
