Detect and Avoid for UAVs

1 recipient will receive $1,358,000. This is a continuing earmark.
Year Enacted: 2005
Description: Use low cost optical sensors, processors, and proprietary software to detect collision course aircraft. UAVs must have the ability to 'see and avoid' air traffic with the same level of safety as a human pilot in order to operate in the National Air Space (NAS) without chase planes and/or ground observers. The capability would be effective against all air traffic, with or without active, transponder-based collision avoidance systems
