Medical Procedures Reference Tool (MPRT)

1 recipient will receive $3,293,000. This is a continuing earmark.
Year Enacted: 2005
Description: To develop a Medical Procedures Reference Tool for field use. The Medical Procedures Reference Tool (MPRT) is a computer-based system that will provide refresher and advanced medical training and specialized reference materials to Navy Corpsmen (HM). The development of a computer-based system to assist in this training will allow HM's to receive training as it fits their schedules. MPRT will be an interactive program, consisting of a combination of video, simulation, and user input to create the feel of an actual patient or scenario. Input can be via voice, touch screen, or hot-keys. Capabilities being leveraged include voice interactive devices developed for the Navy and Intelligent Checklists created for NASA, which utilize algorithms to provide automated step-by-step instructions for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) procedures. Both the Navy and NASA could employ the system. The MPRT can be tailored to meet numerous other reference and training needs, i.e. damage control, CBRE, hazardous material spill responses, etc.
