Life Cycle Savings through Machinery Health Monitoring (Note: only to continue the development of technologies needed to implement condition-based maintenance practices)

3 recipients will receive $2,000,000. This is a continuing earmark.
Year Enacted: 2005
Description: Life Cycle Savings (LCS) is a logistics R&D project to implement Sense and Respond Logistics (S&RL) in Navy systems. LCS makes use of Conditioned Based Maintenance (CBM) techniques and specific prognostic algorithms to provide proactive maintenance and equipment health monitoring. The project employs smart sensors with wireless capability and interfaces to existing Navy maintenance/supply applications to create actionable information. When implemented, LCS should result in higher equipment availability, reduced manning requirements, and lower equipment maintenance/material costs.
