Metallic Materials Advanced Development and Certification

Year Enacted: 2005
Description: This program provides the research, development, testing and evaluation (RDT&E) required to certify of new naval shipbuilding metallic materials and technologies based on the material selection and certification guidance information contained in, 'Material Selection Requirements,' NAVSEA Technical Publication T9074-AX-GIB-010/100, Jan 1999 and 'Material Systems Certification Requirements for Critical Application on Combatant Ships,' Draft NAVSEA Technical Publication, Oct 1999. These new materials and technologies will provide for naval ship structures and machinery with improved performance and/or increased affordability. The shipbuilders, as principle design agents are assisting in defining certification needs and perform testing and evaluation for shipyard specific practices to insure implementation in future combatant weapon systems.
