Wrangell-St. Elias NP

1 recipient will receive $1,479,000. This is a continuing earmark.
Year Enacted: 2005
Description: Funding was provided to acquire a tract of land owned by Ahtna, Inc., and a 363.24-acre block of patented mining claims known as Orange Hill that lies in the north central area of Wrangell'St. Elias National Park and Preserve. The Orange Hill property is mineralized with copper and other metals and has had core samples taken, but no mineral reserves had been established. Federal acquisition precluded mining operations that would have threatened the resources of the park and preserve.
