Description: John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor was authorized in 1986 to tell the story of the American Industrial Revolution, which began along the 46 miles of river and canals running from Worcester, Massachusetts, to Providence, Rhode Island. Funding was provided to restore segments of the Blackstone Canal and towpath, continue the development of the Blackstone Riverway, vigorously address water quality issues, restore aquatic life and migratory fish populations and provide educational opportunities through the 'Fishable/Swimmable by 2015' campaign, support urban waterfront development, provide interpretive programming throughout the Heritage Corridor, and to complete the design and planning for the Northern Gateway Center.
