Citation Excerpt: Senate Appropriations Committee Report 108-342: "Global Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance System [GCNSS].'The Committee provides $20,000,000 for the continuation of the FAA's effort to develop network-centric NAS operations through System Wide Information Management. The Committee directs the FAA to utilize this funding to further define and analyze initial network-centric air traffic management operations and to demonstrate these concepts at one or more FAA sites. Specifically, the demonstration may include the following: flight deviation detection and assessment for security alerting and safety and capacity enhancement; rationalization and integration of NAS surveillance assets for reducing operational and maintenance costs while the existing levels of safety and security are fully maintained; dynamic traffic rerouting and flow re-planning for minimizing NAS disruptions caused by convective weather; and, trajectory-based approach and departure operations for increased terminalarea and airport capacity and reduced flight delays." & Appropriations Committee Conference Report 108-792: "'GCNSS $10,000,000..."
