Description: Federal funding will be used to construct a National IVD Center. The goal of the National Center for In Vitro Diagnostics ("National IVD Center") will be to commercialize laboratory tests known as in vitro diagnostics (IVD's) by establishing laboratory companies and creating related employment opportunities in the Pittsburgh region. The National IVD Center will endeavor to create a sustainable, distinct life science cluster that will attract nascent companies providing laboratory devices and services (and their jobs, investors and commercialization partners), and bring prestige to the region as a place where basic laboratory science is accelerated to a commercial, clinical laboratory application.
