Description: In FY 2001, the Committee included a $600K earmark in the Forest Service Appropriation for the University of MT to provide a proposal to develop a center for landscape fire analysis. In FY 2002, the earmark was moved to the BLM and the Committee recommended additional funding for the purchase of a hyperspectral and digital camera remote sensing system to be allocated to the National Center for Landscape Fire Analysis at the University of Montana and increased the earmark to $1,000,000. In FY 2003, the funding for the National Center for Landscape Fire Analysis at the University of Montana increased to $1,500,000 and each subsequent appropriation bill stated that funding for the National Center for Landscape Fire Analysis shall remain at or above this level.
