Web Manager University Opens Registration for Fall 2007 Classes
Washington D.C. - The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) today announced that online registration has opened for the Web Manager University ’s Fall 2007 semester (http://www.webmanageruniversity.gov).
Offerings this year include online webinars and in-person courses taught by some of the world’s leading experts in web content management, including Gerry McGovern from Ireland, Rachel McAlpine from New Zealand, Alex Langshur from Canada, and Tony Byrne and Ginny Redish from the U.S.
"Web Manager University fills a critical gap by offering affordable training tailored to a government audience, and classes focused on the practical rather than the theoretical," said Martha Dorris, Associate Administrator for the Office of Citizen Services and Communications, which oversees the program. "Web managers come away with concrete skills and strategies specific to government environments that can be immediately implemented upon training completion."
Web Manager University provides a comprehensive, government-focused, low-cost training program for federal, state and local government web managers. Its broad curriculum covers subjects that address varied responsibilities of managing government websites, such as: user-centered design, accessibility; web management and governance; writing for the web; information architecture; search engines; web marketing; social media, and web metrics.
The University’s Spring 2007 semester, its most successful yet, recorded enrollments of approximately 2,400 web managers from across the nation, representing over 50 government agencies. The overall satisfaction for classes, based on class evaluations, was 8.8 out of a possible 10. USA.gov, the U.S. government’s official web portal managed by GSA, and the Inter-agency Web Managers Advisory Council, composed of 40 government agencies, are joint sponsors of Web Manager University (http://www.webmanageruniversity.gov).
