President to Welcome Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi of Italy to the White House

President Bush will host Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi at the White House on February 28, 2006. Italy is one of America's closest allies, and is making extraordinary contributions to peace and security. Under Prime Minister Berlusconi's leadership, Italy has provided vital assistance in building secure and prosperous societies in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans. The President appreciates Prime Minister Berlusconi's deep commitment to spreading freedom and democracy around the world. The President and Prime Minister Berlusconi will discuss a range of issues on the transatlantic agenda, including peace and security in the Middle East region, energy security, and assistance to the people of Iraq and Afghanistan.
