Fund for Women Unveiled in Afghanistan
Fact of the Day
A financial fund to provide assistance in the form of donations or micro-credit to Afghanistan's most needy women was recently launched in Kunduz, Afghanistan. The idea for the fund emerged last December during a regular meeting of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) with non-governmental organizations concerned with women's welfare. This initiative will give poor women the means to begin supporting themselves, and the UN, the government of Afghanistan, and local governments support it both as aid to the poor and as part of the empowerment of civil society in Afghanistan.
