United States Responds Quickly to Tsunami Disaster

The United States took immediate steps to come to the aid of earthquake and tidal wave victims in the Indian Ocean. President Bush has pledged all appropriate assistance to those countries impacted, bilaterally and through the United Nations and NGOs, and the United States government has dispatched Disaster Assistance Response Teams to the area. As an immediate measure, $400,000 is already flowing, $100,000 each to Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Indonesia, and India. This money is available through the Ambassador's Humanitarian Relief Funds.
