Afghan Refugees to Participate in Elections
Fact of the Day
Afghan refugees in Pakistan and Iran will be included in their country's landmark election on October 9. Polling stations are being set up in Afghan refugee camps, and about 600,000 refugees are eligible to vote in Pakistan and about the same number in Iran. An extensive staff of Afghan and UN officials will operate the polling stations and will be informing Afghan refugees of their right to vote. This outreach to Afghan refugees helps ensure that the maximum number of Afghans take part in this historic event.
