Safer Skies for Africa
Fact of the Day
Air travel is becoming safer in Africa, thanks to the Safe Skies for Africa Initiative. This effort to improve airline security is an on-going collaboration between the US and nine African nations, including Angola, Mali, Namibia, and Tanzania. Safe Skies observes and assesses current safety measures, provides technical advice to airports, and donates equipment. Most recently, the program sent $1 million worth of security equipment to Uganda's Entebbe International Airport. Safe Skies recognizes that airline safety is a prerequisite for increased trade and investment on the African continent.
