Safe House Opens for Iraqi Women
Fact of the Day

For the first time ever, women in Iraq have a place to escape physical or sexual abuse. A safe house for battered and abused women has opened in Baghdad with the help of U.S. Army officers and the Iraqi Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. The safe house provides temporary shelter and educates families to prevent future abuse. So far, five women, including one woman with five children, have taken refuge, staying up to two weeks before returning home.
