Global Message

From remarks by US Ambassador to Greece Tom Miller, in an interview with NBC Nightly News, 8/11/04

The United States has invested significant resources in training, exercises, and equipment to help Greece assure that security needs are met during the Olympics.

Cooperation with Greek officials has been excellent. They have acknowledged there is a potential threat and that they need the support of both their own military and outside help.

The Olympic Security Action Group -- which includes France, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, Australia, Israel, and the United States -- is working to address all the security threats that can be anticipated.

We have learned a great deal since 9/11. Terrorists know that there have been a lot of security preparations that have taken place to prepare for the Olympic Games -- and that is very useful.
