Algerian Women Becoming a Political Force
Fact of the Day

Forty Algerian women received training in leadership, political development, and communications at the Summer University for Women Political Activists in Algiers. The program's goal is to assist female political activists as they become involved in civil society activities. The women attending the July 12-16 workshops include leading members of eight political parties. Algerian political parties and the Algerian Center for Information and Documentation on the Rights of Children and Women sponsored the event with the National Democratic Institute. This is another example of ways that women are assuming political leadership roles in the broader Middle East.
